The rooms were clean, and we felt safe walking or running outside in the gated neighborhood. The pool gets plenty of sun too, though the same handful of 80s songs played over and over. At least the music was quiet enough to read by, and I was glad I had my AirPods. The air conditioning had no thermostat and seemed to shut off at random. Around 2 a.m. each night I woke up sweating, and it took a couple of hours before the room felt cool again. The staff were friendly, but the drinks seemed watered down, including the liquor. I never felt a buzz no matter how many margaritas I had, and they didn't taste like Mexican margaritas. I can get better drinks and Mexican food in New Jersey. Even the soda was half water, topped up from a bottle. There was just one restaurant, serving the same food every day, and it wasn't even a buffet. The resort had no gym, and the spa was out of service. An hourly shuttle went to three other resorts, though only Ocean spa resort could be used with the all-inclusive package. It was bigger but much the same, with louder music, a larger pool, some activities, and occasional live music. It was by the beach, but the beach was a marina with very little room to swim. Beach volleyball was a plus. The food and drinks were about the same, although breakfast was much better there. I wish we'd tried it sooner. They had a buffet for all three meals and a restaurant with a different cuisine each night, and the food might have been a little better. I wouldn't recommend either resort unless the price accounted for these problems. For the same money, we could have stayed somewhere much nicer.

Laguna Niguel treated us like royalty, and the staff knew English. We went a few years back, when it had just opened. The fresh air, exercise, and chance to relax were great, and I lost 10 pounds eating fresh food in Mexico. Don't miss the ferry to Cozumel. I love Mexico, and Cancun is amazing!

The rooms were comfortable, clean, and tidy, so it was easy to unwind. I also really enjoyed the food, with lots of variety. Everyone was friendly and attentive, and the service was outstanding. I had a wonderful stay at this all-inclusive resort and would definitely come back.

The staff were attentive and professional, which made the visit pleasant and easy. It was a welcoming, well-kept place to spend time with family and friends. The food was consistently delicious, varied, and well prepared. Laguna Suites offers a high-quality experience, and I’d return to Sunset Royal.

The pool was visibly dirty throughout my entire 5-day stay and never got cleaned, so I couldn't use it. I also had to buy my own towels and food at Walmart. Towels weren't readily available. I had to ask every day and was told they'd take two hours, and sometimes the towels I got were dirty. Housekeeping only came in when guests had left the property, which felt intrusive, and supplies were limited. The room itself was in terrible shape, with old furniture, appliances, and fixtures. There was no hot water. The toilet overflowed and flooded the room, and water backed up from the shower drain, leaving a terrible smell. Maintenance just sprayed air freshener instead of fixing it. The old AC was difficult to adjust, and the TV only had Spanish channels with no way to switch to English. Check-in took 45 minutes to an hour because we had to sit through a presentation overview before getting access to the room. After traveling, that was frustrating and inconvenient. The long check-in, awful room conditions, lack of basic amenities, and poor service made for a deeply disappointing stay. This property didn't meet even basic hospitality standards, and I wouldn't recommend staying here.
