There was nothing fun to do at night, and everything closed by 10:30 pm. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're hoping for a fun vacation. Their website advertised a casino and two nightclubs, but those had been closed for a while. I paid in advance, then was told there'd be another $19 to pay at the property. When I got there, the extra charge, supposedly taxes, was about $70. They also offered a free jungle cruise party boat, but it cost me $13 per person. The customer service was bad. I couldn't find an electrical outlet in the bathroom to use my hair dryer, or one near the big mirror in the room. Water was shut off until 6 AM on my second day with no warning. Mimosas weren't served until 9:30 in the morning. I tried going into the gift shop three times. First I was told to leave because I had a drink, then because I was wet from the pool, and the third time they wanted me to leave my bag outside the door. I found that really offensive. How can they expect a woman to leave her purse or bag outside? I could go on, but don't waste your money if you want a nice, fun vacation.

We were mostly satisfied with what we paid, though knowing more in advance about the options might have helped us plan. The staff were very good, and the Pyramid had a lovely fragrance. With a Pyramid booking, we could use the premium restaurants, which were excellent, especially Banazuza, Careyes, and Sakura. You need to book those ahead. There were other restaurants we meant to try but didn't have enough time. Cafe del Mar has a nice view from outside and a pool beside the sea. The beaches are all the same across the resort, which was good. We changed to a room in the Pyramid building, with a partial beach view, and that worked much better for us and our one-year-old. The room and bathroom were much nicer. The beachfront room's bathroom had been a bit outdated. Also, anyone relying on an elevator for a wheelchair or stroller should know that there are stairs to climb in buildings other than the Pyramid itself. The general restaurant's food selection was very limited. If you eat chicken, this resort may not suit you, as there was little or almost no chicken available.

We had a wonderful five-day stay and will definitely come back next year. There were 17 restaurants for Pyramid guests, and we managed to eat throughout the trip without booking any of them. The food was great, though it could be a little better. The Pyramid was fabulous for us, with great staff, a lovely location, and a very clean, nice property. Don't let the ratings put you off. It's the best resort we've stayed at.

The entertainment was good, and the beach is pretty, but the rough ocean and lack of loungers and shade made it hard to enjoy. Unless you put a towel on a chair by 6:00 AM, there may be nowhere to sit for the rest of the day. It felt like the hunger games. During Spring Break, expect drunk teenagers and huge lines everywhere. We paid for “The Pyramid,” yet the quality was extremely low. The staff felt unwelcoming: they didn't greet us, seemed moody or rude, and acted as if helping was a chore. Their English was very limited, and we saw international guests struggle to get answers. The rooms were dated and smelled bad, with cheap-feeling, uncomfortable mattresses. The buffet was terrible and repetitive. I was served meat that was mostly gristle, and the food overall tasted poor. The snacks were basic, the tacos greasy and unappetizing, and the alcohol tasted bad and seemed bottom-shelf. Booking the specialty restaurants was nearly impossible. One night the buffet was so crowded that they sent us to eat in the cafeteria. Even with the entertainment, this was a terrible experience. We won't return. Save your money and avoid the hassle. Other hotels offer much better quality and service for the same price.

For a family vacation, the resort worked well enough, and I enjoyed my time there. The staff were generally friendly and the food was okay. Despite what some reviews said, the buffet never ran out. At busy dinner times we sometimes saw a wait, but never more than around 15 minutes. Around the pools, though, loungers were scarce. Like at many resorts, you probably won't find one later unless you get up early and put down towels. We paid $75 for a private cabana, which I thought was good value and made the pool much more enjoyable. The rooms were below par, nothing special, and some had visible mold. Cockroaches in my niece's room were disappointing and hard to overlook. I'm a Spanish speaker, and that may have helped when dealing with staff. I can't say for sure what service is like for guests who don't speak Spanish, but it's something to consider. Would I return? Possibly, especially for a budget-friendly all-inclusive. It's not a high-end luxury experience, and you get what you pay for. It didn't leave me thinking, “I'm definitely coming back.”
