Hotel Plaza Kokai Cancún

The hotel looked welcoming from outside, but things changed once I got through the doors. Check-in was at 3 PM, and although I arrived at 2:30, they wouldn’t let me in early. The hotel didn’t seem busy. Most of the room was nice, but it could use some minor maintenance. The AC had an issue that was fixed, though it still drips. The shower pressure pulses, and each pulse shifts from cold to hot. I’d read that there were blackout curtains, but my room only had a light-filtering blind. I tried to book an airport shuttle today, thinking I’d read that one was available. Instead, the desk clerk barely understood English and argued that they only offered taxi service. The pool also wasn’t available, and the rooftop deck no longer had chairs. I’ve spent a lot of time in hospitality, and as the hotel is run now, it feels like a lost cause. With some relatively minor, affordable changes and upgrades, it could be a great place and bring in more business and revenue. I stayed Nov 24 - 1 Dec 2025.

Orlando in the attached restaurant was cheerful and attentive on both mornings we ate there. We stayed twice on our recent trip through Mexico and had no complaints either time. The hotel is older, but good value, and its location puts the ADO bus station, restaurants, and shops nearby. Our rooms were roomy and clean, the beds were comfortable, and nights were quiet. As the check-in information said, there was plenty of hot water from 7pm to midnight. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

The ADO bus terminal is an easy walk from here. Staff were nice, and the rooms were clean.

Bring cash, or you may end up paying at a double conversion rate. Prices were listed in $MEX, but they tried to charge me in USD using their rate, which was higher than the bank rate. The receptionist wouldn't let me pay in $MEX. The rooms were okay, nothing fancy, and they weren't flexible about check-in times. On the plus side, the ADO bus station, supermarket, and restaurants are all close by.
