Hotel Soberanis

This is an old, very basic hotel with thin walls and no sound insulation. There’s no garden or indoor area, but the worst part for us was the cleaning staff going through our things to fold them. They checked all our bags and money was stolen. Reception just said sorry and that they hadn’t found our money. Stay away unless you want to be robbed.

I paid about $20 a night, and wouldn’t want to pay much more for somewhere this basic. The rooms are clean and small, with few amenities, but nothing else to complain about. There’s a working AC unit in each room, and a phone that doesn’t work. Even a small sound seems to echo across the whole floor. Good local restaurants are nearby, there’s a grocery store around the corner, and an exchange right outside the door.

A good option if you need an inexpensive stay near downtown Cancun. The rooms were clean and tidy, with hot water, AC, and personal lockers. The staff were friendly and helpful to visitors, and when we reported a Wi-Fi problem they fixed it quickly. I’d recommend it.

We stayed seven nights and had no complaints. R1 and R2 buses will take you to the beach. It’s noisy, and the beds are firm, so keep that in mind. There are lots of local restaurants, a huge supermarket, and currency exchange around the corner, with Starbucks about 12 minutes away. Leave the cleaning lady a couple of dollars each day and your room will shine.
