The best part was the location, on a gorgeous beach in the middle of Celestun, with beach chairs, umbrellas, tables, hammocks, and paddle boards for guests. We stayed in a suite in the back building, about a 30-yard walk to the beach. The room wasn’t fancy, but it was comfortable, with good AC and hot water. We liked the dogs and cats wandering around the property. There’s a small restaurant on site where you can get food or drinks at very reasonable prices right on the beach. We’d definitely stay again.

Nothing too fancy, but it was very clean, in a perfect location, and the staff were so nice. They were fine with my little chihuahua and didn’t charge extra for him. I’ll definitely come back.

I paid 800 pesos per night for one or two people. The hotel has its own beach, where you can rent a sun shade if you want, and it’s a three-minute walk from the bus. My first-floor room was lovely, spotlessly clean, with a good shower and beautiful, original wooden furniture. Hotel guests can use a terrace overlooking the beach, and there’s a cold water dispenser in the hallway. The restaurant was closed during my stay since it only opens Thursday to Sunday.

During my three-day stay, my room was never cleaned. When I asked about laundry, I was told they didn’t offer it, but a foreign colleague was told they did, and my other foreign colleagues had their clothes washed. My door knob was broken and never replaced, even after I reported it to the manager and was told they’d change it. A man once opened my room by mistake, without the right key. The hotel misleads guests and the service was terrible. I felt they treated us differently because we were local, and it seemed racist.

The décor was pleasant, with flowers painted on the doors and seashells around, and the location was handy for the Zocalo, bus station, and a private beach. But we weren’t told about useful things on arrival, like the fridge and the free water refill station at the ends of the corridors. On our first night, the TVs in the two unoccupied rooms next door switched on by themselves at full volume. No one was at the deserted desk, and calls to staff got no response. We finally managed to turn them off with our TV remote because the window mosquito nets weren’t glued properly. It was stressful and ruined a night before an early start. When we complained, staff didn’t apologize and said, “yes we know, it happens sometimes.” They could at least have told us what to do when we arrived. They said there was a ward around, but we didn’t see him, and he apparently didn’t hear the noise, which was as loud as screaming. The bathroom also had a strong chemical smell that wouldn’t go away, perhaps from renovation work in other rooms, and it worried us a little. Some tourists had taken shells glued to the mirrors. Please leave them for the next guests.
