Hotel Villa Montecarlo

I can only speak to the Sunday brunch, not the hotel or rooms, and it's my favorite in the Lakeside area. There's a huge range of breakfast and brunch dishes, from Mexican favorites to options from north of the border, plus an impressive omelette station. The price is very reasonable for how much food they offer. They serve it outdoors in the garden beneath an elegant white canopy, with a great view of the lake. I've always found live music there too, enough to add to the atmosphere without drowning out conversation. Plenty of parking.

The standout for me is the Pickleball courts. They could use some repairs, as of September 2025, but you can still play. The setting is beautiful, with a nice pool, thermal therapeutic spa, and a bar nearby. Rooms are basic and reasonably priced, and the onsite restaurant serves good food.

The pool is nice and the location is good, but I was completely unimpressed. The rooms were a dump, there was no AC, and the service was terrible. The woman at the front desk wasn't friendly. For the price, I expected much better. At checkout, staff took photos of us because we'd left the TV remotes in the room. Who steals TV remotes? Housekeepers should be able to collect them. The whole hotel was also being fumigated during our stay. I can't recommend it.

The grounds are lovely, but the rooms were the worst I've stayed in for years. The shower literally fell apart, and the water smelled so strongly of sulfur that my wife gagged. We had to cancel the stay and lost a day we couldn't get back. Disgusting overall.
