Hotel Suites Arges - Centro Chetumal

I've stayed there three different times in about a month, and each time I was treated well by the very kind front desk staff. The place was very clean, the rooms friendly, spacious, and quiet, and overall it was a great experience. It's one of the few, and one of the most, pet-friendly places in town.

We spent the night at Hotel Arges before heading over to Belize, and had a very nice stay. The room was spacious, the price was good, and we had a relaxing evening. It was clean, the shower was nice with great water pressure, and the hotel staff were lovely. You can walk to the ferry pier from the hotel.

The staff, from the front desk to housekeeping, were wonderful, friendly, and helpful. The location also works really well for walking everywhere, especially to the Malecon. We booked because the hotel had a pool and knew it'd be hot while we were in town. Unfortunately it was cloudy and dirty, like it hadn't been cleaned in a while, and the online pictures aren't true. The rooms are dated and need updating. Ours was huge, which was nice, but that also made it very noisy. Some comfortable chairs or a couch for reading, working, or watching tv would help. A small fridge would have been useful for cold water and restaurant leftovers, since we had nowhere to keep what we didn't finish.

The pet-friendly listing came with a surprise charge of $200 a night for my pet. Nobody told me at check-in, and it wasn't mentioned on booking.com when I booked. With the total price, I don't think this place is worth the money at all. It's an old, run-down hotel, and having to pay extra at the end left a bitter taste.
