Our room looked out over the Quinta Gameros Cultural Centre, which was a lovely view, and the Centro Histórico was an easy walk away. The staff were cheerful and helpful, even carrying our luggage up the stairs. The spacious room had attractive historical decor, and the shower was good. The hotel itself was nicely designed, but the room is up almost two regular floors of stairs. The breakfast included with our stay was the worst we’ve had in two years of travel. There were six rooms, some double rooms, but only four breakfast seats, so after the first morning we gave it up and ate elsewhere. Noise was another problem. A bar across the narrow street was incredibly loud late into Saturday night, and on other nights there was thumping music from somewhere nearby until late. The air conditioner was noisy too. There was barely any shelf space by the sink, so we kept our toiletries in the bedroom. In a double room for four people, the wardrobe had just two hangers. The room didn’t have drinking water either. I asked reception downstairs for a jug and two glasses, but the cleaner took them away. As other reviews have mentioned, we also couldn’t get into the room several times, even with the key.

I called before the trip to ask a few things and check whether I could invite my besties. Of course that wasn’t allowed, but I only found out after booking because the receptionist hung up on me when I tried to ask. I’d been perfectly nice. I expected at least some cereal or something for breakfast, but they only offered coffee and tea, and couldn’t even give it to go, lol. I brought my own towel because the ones I saw were only little face towels. The place is kind of expensive for being treated badly by the receptionist, who I think was named Jorge, though I’m not sure. For the same money, you could find a fancy hotel with nicer staff.

We had a really pleasant stay and would happily return. The hostel is beautifully decorated throughout, and our room was huge, with a giant bed and the best mattress you could hope for. The owner speaks English, which made things easier, and there are bikes you can borrow for free. It’s also well placed, about a 15-minute walk from most of the main sights in central Chihuahua.

The front desk staff were welcoming and went out of their way to help. The Pancho Villa and Doña Luz rooms are roomy, with tasteful decor and antique furnishings, and you can see the museum across the street from the rooms. There’s not much surface space for your things, though, and the bathrooms are tiny. The hot water was nice. There are no mini-fridges in the rooms, and the hotel keeps only a little ice on hand. This gorgeous boutique hotel would make a romantic stay for two, and I’d recommend it. Guests 18 and under aren’t allowed.

The room was thoughtfully designed, as was the rest of the hotel, and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, arranging an early mini breakfast before we set off for El Chepe. They’d also been very helpful before our arrival when we asked about the train.
