Breakfast runs from 6 to 10 am and has much more than toast and coffee: eggs, chicharrón, fresh fruit, cereal, and chilaquiles. The chef is good, and the price is right. The location is about 10 minutes from anywhere you’d want to go in the city, and the people are amazingly friendly. There’s also a small room with cardio equipment and dumbbells, enough for a basic workout. The hotel was very nice and clean. The odd thing is the bathroom doors: they don’t lock, and you can see through them, which feels weird.

I’m writing this on behalf of my parents, who stayed one night, on Sunday, Nov 17, in a basic king room. I wasn’t there myself. The hotel wasn’t busy, so the parking lot wasn’t full, probably because it was Sunday, though it didn’t look very big. Online, they ask for a card to reserve a specific room, but apparently they can’t charge the card used to book. I have no idea why, and even though I tried to pay for my parents with my American card, they wouldn’t accept it. My parents had to use their Mexico debit/credit card, which was inconvenient. I wish they’d let me use the card from the reservation to make payment quicker and easier. Their room was clean and had plenty of towels, as shown in the pictures. The shower started warm and later got very hot, so they had no trouble getting hot water. The hotel is close to the freeway and near restaurants and fast food. The front desk guy was polite and nice, and the lobby through to the room looked very clean and elegant. My parents said breakfast the next morning was very good with lots of choices. They had a very good stay, with working Wi-Fi and room keys, and no car break-ins or anything.

After dinner, we got back at 11 PM and couldn’t get into our room. Staff spent 45 minutes trying to fix the locks, then moved us to another room. My girlfriend’s medication, tampons, and our dog’s food were still locked inside, so we went the night without them. In the morning, a young staff member told us we could get back in before he finished his shift, but that wasn’t true. We waited another hour before the room was finally opened. They only apologized after we complained. The manager, Jesus, said it was the first time this had happened, but other reviews say otherwise. When we asked for a refund, he first offered only part of it and threatened to call the police when we insisted on a full refund. We eventually got cash back, probably so his boss wouldn’t find out. The hotel should change door batteries every year and have a night manager for serious problems. Visitors should stay somewhere else.

There wasn’t a patch of grass anywhere for my dogs, even fake grass would’ve helped. It’s hard to call this a “pet friendly” hotel when there’s nowhere for them to go. The room also had no fridge, side table, nightstand, ottoman, suitcase rack, or anything useful, just a tiny joke of a place for belongings, so all my stuff had to go on the floor. There’s clearly room for a table, bench, or chair. The closet was a joke too, with no space to hang a coat. The glass bathroom door lets you see through it, so where’s the privacy? They barely provided towels, just two regular ones and one hand towel. There wasn’t even a coffee maker or complimentary bottle of water. This was less than okay, maybe a one-star hotel.

Our tour company booked this hotel for the Copper Canyon trip. The hotel itself was okay, though the tour company caused us a lot of problems. If I did it again, I’d arrange the hotels and tours myself. There are nicer, quieter big hotels around the mall and business area about a mile down the freeway, including Hilton, though I don’t know what they cost outside a tour package. The room was clean and recently updated, but the bed and pillows were just average. Breakfast had a few choices, and there were plenty of places to sit and talk or play cards. The big problem was the highway right beside the hotel. 18-wheelers use their Jake brakes through the night, and the noise came through the closed windows. I kept waking up. There isn’t much to explore, eat, or walk around on even ground right by the property. A Chili’s is several blocks away across the highway, and there’s another one in the mall, along with a Starbucks and lots of shops.
