The rooms and beds could use some improvement, but this place still feels magical. It’s a beautiful yoga and meditation retreat, surrounded by stunning views of nature, with delicious vegetarian food and great teachers.

The vegetarian food was amazing, and I loved the yoga and meditation classes. Such a beautiful place, highly recommended!

It’s in a lovely mountain town, and the setting itself is beautiful. We were frustrated, though, by how little information we got about which facilities and classes were available.

So much natural beauty all around.

Coatepec Ashram is set in the lush rainforest of Veracruz, and the forest trail, with old trees and jungle stretches, makes for a lovely place to walk and reflect. We found it to be a distinctive retreat focused on spirituality, ecology, and self-discovery, rather than an ordinary hotel. The account describes it as a 13-hectare site, one of 52 ashrams worldwide and Mexico’s largest. It’s a place to step away from city stress and connect with nature. The accommodation is simple, more like a camp or hostel. Shared rooms have wooden bunk beds, and there are communal showers. Some showers are ambient for yogis, while visitors can use the hot-water showers. Comforts are basic, and some travelers say the beds could be better. For them, the yoga and meditation classes and the spiritual atmosphere made up for that. Meals are vegetarian, made with fresh ingredients and Ayurvedic techniques. Even people who might be skeptical of that style of cooking can be surprised by the food. One traveler called the vegetarian recipes extraordinary. Coatepec, the Pueblo Mágico where the ashram is located, adds more to explore. There’s the Coffee Museum and freshly roasted espresso at farms such as Don Silvano. Hidalgo Park has an orchid garden with more than 1,000 species, and Bola de Oro and La Granada waterfalls are near town. This is a good fit for spiritual travelers, ecotourism fans, or anyone hoping for quiet and a deeper connection with nature, as long as you’re ready for a simple stay. I’d recommend it with an open mind and a willingness to let go of expectations. It feels like a hidden gem and a different kind of travel experience.
