Hotel Zar Coatzacoalcos

We walked to the beach, and there’s an Oxxo nearby where we picked up coffee each morning. The hotel is also across from Forum Mall, with a theater, plenty of shops, and a food court. It’s in an area called Quadrum, which has more stores, restaurants, and bars. This is the nicest hotel we’ve stayed at in Coatza. The staff are attentive, the air conditioning gets cold, and the Wi-Fi was fast and uninterrupted. There’s hot water in the shower and a good selection of TV channels. A restaurant is downstairs. I think breakfast costs $190mx per person. We didn’t eat there, though it was always busy in the mornings.

The firm beds were almost hard, and there weren’t nearly enough pillows. Although we had the two beds we needed as friends traveling together, the bathroom had only a half door, so you could hear everything. That’s just stupid, frankly. The staff were friendly enough and the service wasn’t too bad. I’ve visited 73 countries, and I’ve stayed somewhere better in every one of them, including Europe and the US, for the same price. This chain isn’t among the world’s top 10%. It’ll fill the gap if you just need a place to stop.

Hotel Zar was a fantastic dog-friendly stop on our way to the Yucatan. The only issue was the shopping center you have to drive through to reach the hotel. Its topes are huge, and my car scraped the bottom on every one. Crazy...

The hotel was clean, the air conditioning worked well, and the staff were nice. They sorted out the TV problem, too. There was no hot water on the day we stayed, though, and the pet fee seemed high. We paid more for our three dogs than for the room. The location felt safe, but it seemed set up to take as much money as possible from gringos. All the restaurants were overpriced. One taco cost us 70 pesos, which just added to that impression.
