We came for a friend’s wedding, and the hotel had been booked for all the guests. The problems started with trying to reserve a room. The process was needlessly frustrating because the staff didn’t know how to handle international payments. When we arrived, the front desk couldn’t tell whether we’d paid, so we had to show the invoice they had sent us, even though no one had told us to bring it. The staff service was poor in other ways too. We ordered one dish and the server brought two of the same thing. He blamed us, and we ended up paying for both. That was only one of several problems we had with the staff. The room was okay, but not worth the price. The shower drain was clogged, the lighting was bad, and nails sticking out from the bottom of the closet were a safety hazard. The amenities are decent but poorly maintained. In summer, there were dead bugs all over the pool and dining area. It’s a shame such a cute place is managed so badly. Definitely not worth the money. REPLY TO COMMENT: We were in Room 7, and the reservation was under my wife’s name, Gabriela Lucia Navarrete Bovio. I’m not sure the reservation actually had our names right, given the mess in administration.

The hotel has a really relaxing vibe, and I loved the pool and bar. The rooms are neat and clean, and the waiters were very attentive. The food was good, though not great, at least what I ordered. There are lots of tours nearby, which is a plus.

A great spot for a weekend away, an anniversary, or another special occasion. The hotel is amazing and has a unique, original feel, and the rooms were beyond what I expected. What a wonderful place in the middle of the desert. Come to 4 Ciénagas and support tourism in Mexico!

We bought a day pass, and I don’t know if that’s why we were treated poorly, but our time here was disappointing. Staff kept watching our bills as if we were thieves. They brought me the wrong menu item and insisted on charging me for it even after I explained the mistake. That has never happened to me before, and I travel internationally often, so I was really upset. I understand that guidelines and capacity limits are still in place, but having one server for a whole pool full of people made service painfully slow. She also had an attitude. Some things were minor, others were just wrong, and it all affected the service. Our Airbnb was amazing, though. People should consider staying in homes owned by the community. The service we got from local people was exceptional. Hotel 1800, you have work to do.

The pool is fantastic, and breakfast was delicious. The staff tried their best to meet our needs. The hotel was clean, and the air conditioning worked perfectly, which matters when the average daytime temperature here is over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The food wasn’t very good, and there was a confusing mismatch between what they said they could serve and what was listed on the menu. A couple of times they told me new menus were coming, but I don’t know why it was so hard to print them on a laser printer. The TV didn’t have a single English-language channel. The biggest hassle was the computer system. You can’t charge drinks or meals to your room, so you have to carry cash everywhere, and getting change is a pain. The bar has a large selection of liquor and mixed drinks, but each time you have to take out your wallet, pay, and wait for change. You can’t open a tab or put it on your room. The internet was another big problem. I chose this hotel when looking in Cuatro Ciénegas because it said it had Wi-Fi, but it didn’t have reliable Wi-Fi. There seemed to be six different networks, and I had to sit at reception to fill this out. There was no Wi-Fi in the room, and the wired connection was extremely slow, about 2.5 MB. It wasn’t enough for anything. My wife loves Netflix, and we couldn’t watch it; without room Wi-Fi, even watching a movie is difficult. If I return, I’ll check before booking that Wi-Fi is available everywhere at a decent speed, at least 5 or 7 megabytes. My pockets ended up full of coins.
