Hotel el Fuerte

The hot water can be a challenge in this old building. If having it is essential, let the staff know so they can put you on the side closer to the boiler. Otherwise, this is a very cool old hotel with great staff. I'd recommend giving Hotel El Fuerte a try. Disfrute.

The hotel is close enough to walk to the plaza, Museum El Fuerte-Mirador, and the path along the Rio Fuerte. Julia was especially thoughtful and checked whether we'd need a taxi for our Chepe Express train the day before we left. The staff were pleasant overall. WiFi worked well in the lobby, even for uploading videos, though for most of our stay that was the only place we could use it. The 300-year-old hacienda style building has a lot of atmosphere, with long corridors, inner courtyards, eclectic decorations, and pigeons fluttering by now and then. Our room was spacious, especially the bathroom and sink area. In the sweltering weather, the air conditioning took a while to cool such a large room, but it wasn't a problem for us.

We were taking the Chepe train, and they let us leave our Spyder motorcycle in the garage inside the building while we were gone. Thanks so much! It's a clean little old style Mexico hotel with lovely decor and great service. I love this place.

The online photos don't do this cute hotel justice. In person, it's picturesque and full of history. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and our room was clean.
