The location is central, the food was good, and the staff were friendly. We liked the cute hacienda-style property and lovely room decor, so I’d recommend staying here. Our room did have a few problems: we couldn’t get the heating and air conditioning system to work, and the shower water swung between too cold and too hot. There were no English-language TV channels either.

We spent two nights here on the way to and from Copper Canyon, and it was a relaxing place to rest. The pool was well kept and got plenty of use. LaChoza has a lovely garden, gazebo, and outdoor seating, and the hotel feels quaint and authentic. Our room was immaculate, with fresh bedding and towels and all the amenities except a hairdryer.

We liked the location, comfort, and charm, but our stay ended on a sour note. When we asked about taking the public bus transfer to El Chepe, the hotel told us that wasn't possible and offered to arrange a taxi instead. We weren't sure, but had little solid information, so we accepted. They advised us to leave for the station an hour before the train, and we followed that local advice. We ended up arriving much earlier than needed, at the same time as the public bus, which cost a quarter as much and which we'd been told we couldn't take. The taxi then went back for another couple we'd seen at the hotel, who at least may have reached the station at a more reasonable time. It's a nice enough place, but I wouldn't trust the front desk for advice. It felt like they cared more about a kickback than helping us.

I've stayed here several times over the past 5+ years. It's right in the main historic center, and the rooms are quiet, clean, and modern. The internet is good too, and the restaurant is one of the best in town for both quality and value.

Of the three hotels we've stayed at in El Fuerte, this was the best. The room, pool, and restaurant were great, and being right on the town square made it perfect.
