The trip to Minas Viejas waterfall was a totally different scene: gorgeous pools to swim in and rope swings, but lots of people and life vests were required. At Bel Ha, the river was the opposite kind of magic. A short walk brought me to clear turquoise pools spilling into one another, and in low season I had the place almost to myself. I was a bit let down at first that the lodge wasn't right beside the river, but that walk changed my mind. Even getting there started things off well. They asked when I'd arrive, and after I got off the Vencedor bus, one of the staff was there to drive me to the ecolodge. I had been ready to walk a couple of kilometers in the heat, so that welcome felt wonderful. I loved my two days there and I'm already thinking about coming back.

A good fit if you want the outdoors and camping feel, and don't mind being away from the city or the internet. The rooms are unusual, built from bamboo and palm leaves, with a fan to keep things cool. The people were kind, and the food was good.

We visited in November and had comfortable weather, with no bugs. Birds, especially the busy parrots, were active early in the morning, and the food was quite good too. The owners have made cabins with concrete foundations and thatched roofs. There's a spring-fed river with little waterfalls, and you can pay extra for a guide to climb over them and jump in. The water was clean, blue, and beautiful.

We've returned to Bel Ha again and again, and it still doesn't disappoint, even in a tropical storm. Alex, Hilda, their family, and the staff took great care of us with the lodging, food, guide, and service. Five stars all around, highly recommend.

We brought our dog and had a perfect vacation. The owners' kids even kept an eye on our pug while we went off on our adventure. Cesar was a great guide for the waterfall jumps, and the river was the bluest I've ever seen. I was a little concerned about the inclusive meals since I'm doing keto, but Helga and Alex were really accommodating and the food worked out perfectly. I can't say enough good things about Bel-ha.
