Espita was such a lovely quiet village, and the hotel felt like an oasis there. The garden and outdoor spaces were magical, and the rooms and shared interiors were just right. We were welcomed with a mezcal drink, which was a nice touch. The food really stood out too. We had the three-course dinner two nights running, with a great menu, lots of flavor, and real attention to detail. Lunch by the pool was tacos, and breakfast was very good as well. This ended up being our favorite hotel of the whole Mexico trip. We came from Cancun, stopped after Ek Balam, which is only about a half-hour drive away, and then continued to Rio Lagartos. A perfect stop, and I’d absolutely recommend it.

The hotel was a real surprise, an old colonial townhouse turned into a beautiful little boutique place, with a lush garden and a great pool. We had delicious welcome drinks and a lovely dinner from the fire-oven kitchen. Espita itself felt much better kept and more charismatic than nearby towns. We changed our Yucatan plans a bit and stumbled across it. There’s no mass tourism here, just village life in Mexico. In other towns the streets are packed with cars, while here you see cute moto and bike taxis.

The cocktails and food were amazing, and the welcome was so warm. The architecture blends into the natural surroundings, and the town feels very typical. I found the stay incredibly relaxing and refreshing. This boutique hotel is a must-stay, and I’ll be back. I fully recommend it.

The pool area was beautiful, the rooms were nice, and the free breakfast was delicious. But the cocktails and other drinks are seriously overpriced, even more than a regular cocktail in Germany. That took away from the evenings a bit, since there’s “nothing” near the hotel where you could go for a nice cocktail instead.

The atmosphere felt authentic throughout, with a warm welcome and refined food. The serene rooms have lots of natural light and open onto preserved gardens. Casona Los Cedros is more than a hotel, it feels like a peaceful haven in Espita, and one not to miss.
