Guadalajara Plaza Expo Business Class

The staff were great and understood my daughters medical condition, allowing us to cancel without a charge. But the smell and cleanliness were a different story. The place is run-down, extremely humid, and smells horribly musty and moldy. Our room was hot, and the stench hit me as soon as I left the elevator on the second floor. I felt like my airways were closing. If you're looking for at least three-star cleanliness and no bad smells, this isn't the place.

It was a really nice, safe hotel in a great location on my first stay. When I returned three months later, I changed my rating from five stars to four. My key card deactivated every time I used it, so I'd get back to my room and find I couldn't enter. They blamed the AHR EXPO, but it happened even when I hadn't gone inside the EXPO. I kept the card away from my wallet, phone, and keys, but it still wouldn't work. I hope they switch to touch less keys because this was an unnecessary hassle.

The breakfast buffet was very good, but that was the one thing I liked. I chose this hotel for a good night's sleep while traveling, and left after one night. The gap under the door let noise pass easily between rooms. When neighboring rooms were cleaned, I could smell the disinfectant too, since the same air circulated through the hotel. The old AC just recirculated air, had no heat, and the big windows let in the cold on a cold day. The carpet held onto smells and moisture. Mold was the biggest problem: the smell was obvious as soon as the elevator opened, and the whole fourth floor and rooms smelled damp. If you're sensitive to smells, you'll hate it. The internet was the main complaint: the signal was very weak, and faster service cost extra. The TV, bottled water, shampoo, and soap were low quality and off-brand. The hotel is badly in need of renovation, and the lack of care made the experience poor. It sits in the expo area and is billed as business class or business friendly, but I don't think it lives up to that. There are better options, and I'd call this standard hotel quality. I paid double for the room, which made those shortcomings harder to accept. This isn't a hotel I'd recommend. Other reviews also mention the mold smell and old facilities.

The service was good overall, and most of the place was immaculate. The towels weren't very clean, though. Breakfast could use some work too: the juice wasn't great, and the eggs seemed to be cooked in water rather than oil.
