We got early check-in by a couple of hours, plus a surprise free upgrade to a balcony room. The staff were super friendly and helpful throughout. The location is hard to beat, right in Colonia Americana, a very walkable part of Guadalajara. Paseo Chapultepec, with its cafés, restaurants, and street vendors, is a three-minute walk, and Jardín Americana with its food stalls is across the street. There was occasionally an unpleasant smell in the bathroom, though it seemed like a city-wide sewage issue rather than something specific to the hotel. The breakfast buffet is 285 pesos per person, handy if you don’t want to head out in the morning. We had a lovely stay at Hotel Antré and would definitely recommend it.

We stayed three days in a large, clean room with comfortable beds, and the staff were friendly and happy to answer questions. Many attractions, cafés, and restaurants are within walking distance. The air conditioner cost us a star: we couldn’t adjust the temperature or fan speed, so the room got very cold and we needed extra blankets. Front desk staff couldn’t change the settings. I hope the hotel reconsiders locking the AC controls for guests.

Breakfast itself was good, and the cocinero who made the eggs was very friendly. But I’ve never had such bad service at a breakfast place. Our waiter Edgar added a tip we hadn’t agreed to, then laughed at us maliciously when we noticed. Such a weird, inappropriate experience. There are other places to have breakfast with more honest people. Que triste!

My family enjoyed the visit and felt very safe in this neighborhood. We took public transportation to Zapopan, and the hotel is close to transit and restaurants. It’s a clean hotel with good service and a great location, about 15 minutes by taxi from the American Consulate. Tours to nearby towns, including Lake Chapala and Tequila, are inexpensive and can be booked directly at the hotel. There’s lots to do in Guadalajara. Check Ticketmaster for concerts, and if you like wrestling, there’s Tuesday night Lucha Libre. Flights from Cabo San Lucas to Guadalajara are direct and reasonably priced, with a flight time of 1 hour 30 minutes. Check local airlines such as viva aerobus for prices and schedules.

The room was clean and okay, but there was loud street noise even at night. Check-in felt chaotic and unwelcoming, and employee friendliness was only middling. Breakfast wasn’t worth the price: the waiters were poor, there was no cutlery on the table or buffet, and coffee was served just once. For this price I wouldn’t stay again, since other hotels offer better value.
