The upstairs bar played loud music late into the night, so we couldn't sleep. The once lovely stained glass dome in the middle of the hotel is barely holding together, and our bathroom was a partitioned corner of the room, open to the bedroom and ceiling. The elevator isn't just temporarily out of service, it's completely out of operation. This is a wonderful historic building, but it's become dirty and dilapidated in a way that feels neglected, not nostalgic. The dark foyer isn't welcoming, and the place has deteriorated a lot since 6 years ago. Whoever runs it seems to be trying to please everyone and ends up pleasing nobody. It feels unsure whether it's in the distant past or the present, and that leaves guests feeling uneasy too. The building may survive, but I don't think the hotel will if it keeps relying on nostalgia to make up for its flaws. If they brought back the music, candlelight, and atmosphere of old Guadalajara, it might recover. Loud music and a giant TV in the lobby beside the colonial fountain don't make sense, and don't satisfy either crowd.

We stayed several memorable days, and the room service kept everything clean. One evening, mariachis played in the lounge. Our bed was large and comfortable, and the AC worked well. At 400 years old, a hotel is bound to have a few quirks, like dated furniture and not many electrical outlets. Hotel Frances is historic, well priced, and conveniently placed for light rail or walks around Centro Historico. We'd stay again.

My husband and I had an amazing time here, and we've already booked our second trip. The staff were friendly, professional, and really personable. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Guadalajara.

The elevator was under repair while we were there, but the staff carried our bags for us and were lovely and attentive. It's a nice area for walking and touring, with great places to eat and get drinks nearby.

The building has history, but our stay was noisy and the front desk seemed indifferent. The elevator didn't work, the bathrooms had leaks and worn fixtures, and the rooms didn't have enough electrical outlets.
