Villas Fa Sol Huatulco

The pool, breakfast, and views are excellent, and the hotel itself is great. The beaches there weren’t very good for us, though. The main one is rocky, while the sand at the second is hard and there are lots of sea urchins. You’ll need a rental car to get to better beaches.

Villas Fa-Sol is a lovely boutique hotel, with a magnificent view and kind, professional staff. Jordan speaks excellent Engish and took care of whatever we needed. Breakfast is delicious, and there’s a small fridge in the room for a few lunch items. For 85 pesos, a taxi can take you to one of several good dinner spots. Alfredo's comes to mind. If you want to swim in the ocean, there’s a virgin beach next door, reached by a somewhat rugged five-minute walk. The stairs and unrailed area by the pool may make it less suitable for children. For peace and beauty, I’d happily stay at Villas Fa-Sol again.

We ended up contacting Expedia to move us on the first day. After the first night, the stay had already felt uncomfortable and inconvenient. The bed was extremely hard, almost like sleeping on the floor, and the bathroom got very hot because the room’s AC didn’t reach it. When we tried to make the best of things and go to sleep, we found ants covering the headboard. We moved the bed and found more underneath. Getting help meant texting the girl on WhatsApp, which was inconvenient, especially since we didn’t know she was already home and didn’t want to bother her. The pool was also much dirtier in person than it looked in the pictures. They advertised a private beach experience, but we were told on arrival that swimming wasn’t possible because the beach was rocky and the waves were strong. That was one reason we’d booked the place. My husband and I had planned to stay, but that first day and night were terrible.

The rooms are simple and contemporary, with comfortable beds and an unbelievably beautiful view. Staff were polite and great, and the kitchen served delicious food with both authentic and more familiar choices. The hotel and beach are good places to spot wildlife. The nearby beach is rocky, but a two-minute walk through the woods takes you to a private beach.
