Hotel Misión Los Cocuyos

For the price, I’d put it at three stars, with a nice garden and decent facilities. It’s a little above average, but I wouldn’t call it a four-star hotel. There were some good points: the mattress and pillows were comfortable, there were enough pillows, and the shower was hot. Towels were okay, though nothing special. The facilities seemed fine, and staying there might be fun in good weather. The reception staff were kind, but didn’t seem very focused on guests’ comfort. We asked for a king-size bed and were told none was available, even though the hotel seemed almost empty. We were first given a room on the ground floor despite the higher floors having a better view and plenty of empty rooms. That first room smelled of mold and damp. We switched to a second-floor room, where the little table was dirty, with ashes left on it as if someone had smoked there. A bathroom towel was wrapped in something dirty, covered in mold spots, and shouldn’t have been on a clean towel. There were plenty of old details that need replacing. The outlets and switches by the beds were really worn, the balcony had rusty spots, and the TV was too small for a four-star hotel. At 9 in the morning, someone started knocking on the wall to do repairs. That’s not acceptable for a hotel claiming to care about guest comfort.

A nice setting and landscape for family time or business meetings.

The surroundings were beautiful and the food delicious, but the restaurant service was poor. When I asked for bread, the staff seemed bothered, and I felt really uncomfortable. The place is old and needs better bathrooms, carpet, and definitely better beds. It’s expensive for somewhere this dated. We had to switch rooms because one of the beds had fleas. So disgusting!

A great venue, with event spaces, places to sit, and accommodations spread across a forested property with trails. The food was very good, and the staff were attentive. It’s a great stop for birders and other naturalists.
