Ensueño Holbox and Beach Club

The scorpion in the shower was the worst part. I reported it to staff on WhatsApp, but they only replied in the morning and brushed it off, saying scorpions weren't dangerous. I don't know how dangerous it was, but I had to deal with it myself, and I can't imagine anyone wanting to sleep with one in their room. The safe needed repair, and the heating plate was very old and worn. There wasn't even drinking water in the room. Breakfast was poor, the tea wouldn't brew, and eggs cost extra. The beach club was covered in sargassum, so there was no beach at the time, and nobody had told us. The hotel had good reviews, so we chose it despite being farther from the centre. I tried to book directly to support local business and was told it would be cheaper than using an online agent, but it ended up costing more. We were tired, so I agreed. The room was quite large and the air conditioning worked, but the hotel was quite far from the centre, a 15-20 minute walk or a taxi. I'm usually an understanding customer, but this was really frustrating.

The staff were lovely, and the place was okay, but the rooms felt quite worn down. The mattress was old, the pillows had seen better days, and there were barely any phone signal or WiFi in the rooms. No plugs by the bed, either. The shower toiletries were low quality, and breakfast wasn't served until 8:30.

A real hidden gem in Holbox. I loved my king suite, especially the nice balcony. A boiler in the room would have been useful. My only small disappointment was that they wouldn't let me check out 30 minutes later unless I paid 150 pesos.

The beach club is nice to visit, and there are games and a ping pong table to use. The room was clean, nice, and perfectly fine, with the sea and beach conveniently close by. The people at the front desk were very pleasant. Breakfast was the weak point for us: it didn't start until 8:30, which felt late, portions were small, and there weren't many choices.
