It has the feel of a very well-organized DDR party members’ holiday camp. The rooms are functional, and the atmosphere is so restrained that individuality seems gently discouraged. It’s clean and efficient, delightfully overpriced, and serves memorable coffee. Reception also manages to split its attention between guests and social media.

We were there just after New Year’s, and the location made things easy, right in the center. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the AC worked really well. The pool looked nice, though we didn’t have time to try it. For the price, we expected more. The toilet had maintenance issues, and some towels and pillow covers were torn, which was disappointing. The location and staff were good, but the room upkeep and value could be better.

The staff were attentive and quick to respond, and for the money this is good value. I’d stay again, though I’d ask for an upstairs room to get some light and a bit of a view. Our ground-floor room beside the pool was dark and gloomy, so we kept the curtains shut for privacy. Street noise wasn’t an issue, but the AC and fridge were loud enough that earplugs came in handy. There were a crazy number of mosquitoes and cockroaches. Cleaning isn’t done daily, and after three days there was more sand in the room than the Sahara. They should make daily cleaning a priority, like at home, and empty the bathroom bins. The kitchen had no cups, glasses, plates, or anything else until we asked, although the staff happily brought them. I have no idea why they don’t leave those things there in the first place. Keeping the floor clean was an issue too, and the room felt sticky after cleaning, perhaps from too much product or reused water.

The reception girl was so lovely, and the room and location were nice. The pool is a decent size, and you can book tours through the hotel, which was much easier than dealing with the street hawkers. After four months travelling around Central America, I was so tired of having just a single sheet on the bed. La Palma had a proper duvet! The bed and pillows were super comfy too, so it was HEAVEN. Would recommend.

The location is easily the best part, close to the town center and beach, and Jonathan at the front desk was fantastic with his local restaurant tips. Still, after four nights, this felt more like a three-star stay than a five-star one because of small things that could’ve been avoided. Cleaning every third day, supposedly for “environmental reasons,” felt more like a way to cut costs. The floors were already dirty when we checked in, and after cleaning they felt sticky, possibly from too much product or reused water. The rooms are large and have a kitchen, but we had to ask for every basic item, including cutlery, which made things a hassle. Amenities felt budget too, with one liquid soap for both hands and the shower. The shaded pool didn’t seem very clean, though being near the ocean made up for that somewhat. Service was mixed: the female receptionist seemed more interested in her phone and friends than helping guests. The central location also means a lot of street noise, so bring earplugs. That isn’t the hotel’s fault, but it’s good to know. It’s a solid choice for the location, but they need to take care of these details to earn a top rating.
