Golden Paradise Beach

Ocean view, though there's no beach here. Other beaches are nearby.

The service was incredible. The woman working there was polite and so helpful, and even though we stayed just two nights, they offered to clean our whole room. The hotel was cozy and had everything we wanted, at a somewhat inexpensive price. It sits by a beautiful, quieter part of Holbox beach, so waking up there was perfect.

The staff were friendly, the rooms were cleaned daily, and the quieter side of the island is within walking distance of the main strip. Being by the beach was great, though the hotel lounge and beach area sit behind a grimy seawall that blocks direct access to the water. That wall is eroding the beach, too. Some of the chairs lacked cushions. For 130 USD a night, our shabby room with no view felt way overpriced. The bathroom roof was collapsing, there were no mosquito nets despite plenty of bugs, and we were bitten every night. The advertised WiFi wasn't available. A taxi to the ferry cost 200 MXN, more than 100 MXN over the right price. The family next door kept us awake with crying children, and guests on the balcony behind Golden Paradise could see straight onto ours and into the rooms. We were disappointed by the poor value. It was loud and buggy.

The staff were friendly, the room was cleaned every day, and the hotel is right on the beach on the quieter side of the island. Those were the reasons I gave it two stars instead of one. The WiFi didn't work in our room at all, and only occasionally worked by reception, where it was miserably slow. We often had no warm water. Twice in the last two days they shut off our water supply, and I had to ask staff to turn it back on so I could shower after the beach. I don't understand why. The rooms are extremely basic, with nowhere for clothes except one bench and three hangers, and there were no mosquito nets. There were so many nicer places at this price, so the value for money was very low.
