The room was huge, nicely decorated, and check-in was easy. Staff answered my questions helpfully during my two nights, April 7-9. The location toward the island’s southwest end is another big plus, with plenty of restaurants and beach clubs within walking distance. I had breakfast both mornings at Loretta’s, and the food was fantastic. I’d also point people to Kin Ha and Loretta’s for beach clubs, and Garrafon de Castilla for good snorkeling on the left side of the beach. The Joint is worth a visit too, especially for its incredible frozen Mojitos and fish tacos. I tried tacos at several places, and theirs were hands-down my favorite. Don’t be fooled by other places claiming to have the island’s best.

Casa Azul Maya has become a favorite for my family. This was our second visit, and the large Isla room on the second floor gives our three kids plenty of room to spread out. All three rooms have AC that works well, and you can set each one to your liking. It’s tucked away from the busy areas, which makes it peaceful for a couple or family looking for a quiet escape. Angel and Geo take such good care of you and make you feel like family. The connection with Lorettas for breakfast and beach chairs is well worth it. We’ll gladly come back.

We returned to the upper floor of Casa Azul Maya for a longer stay in November, so we had a fair idea what to expect. It’s off the main road, which keeps golf cart and other noise mostly manageable. The rooms are roomy, with good hanging space and a comfortable bed. The kitchen area is tight, but there’s plenty of drinking water, coffee, a percolator, filter papers, a microwave, and a fridge. The bathroom is kept supplied with soap, shampoo, conditioner, and towels. Wi-Fi was a little unreliable, and they were working on improvements while we were there. It’s easy to walk to the north coast beach and coastal path, or take the 20 peso/$1 bus into town or to Chedraui supermarket. We had breakfast at Loretta’s across the road every day and really liked the food, atmosphere, and staff there. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. Angel and Geo at reception and Lorena in housekeeping were especially attentive and made the stay more enjoyable. Thank you.

We’d stay here again. The rooms were spacious, with good AC and really hot water, and we appreciated having a kitchen, fridge, and microwave. They also brought plenty of fresh drinking water each day. Staff were friendly and helpful. The street got a little noisy sometimes, mostly in the morning, but it wasn’t too bad or too late at night. The location is in a quieter part of the area, right across from Kin Ha, a fun spot with good food. It took about 15 minutes and a $15 taxi ride to reach the other side of the island.

Angel was great, which earns the two stars. The hotel itself was nice and the room spacious, but there was another rental property above it, with rooms directly under a large swimming pool. We got back at night and could hear kids yelling, swimming, and running around until midnight, though I’d expected things to quiet down by 10. After they went to bed, the pool began making a wavering noise, maybe from draining or maintenance. It continued until 6am. If you’re in a second floor room, I’d suggest asking for the ground floor. We were lucky to stay just one night. Such a shame, since the hotel and staff were nice.
