Casa de la Luna Loca by Skyrun

We’ve stayed at Casa de Luna Loca twice now, and we’re already looking forward to another visit. The rooftop views are stunning, and the decor and inviting pool make the house feel top notch. We cooked breakfast most mornings in the fully equipped kitchen, with coffee and mimosas. There’s also a grill outdoors by the pool, though we haven’t gotten around to using it yet. The beds are comfortable, there are plenty of towels, and the property manager responds quickly if you need anything.

This was the worst vacation I’ve ever had. The outside of the house was in rough shape, and the locks on the front gate and one front door didn’t work. One person in our group left a day early, leaving a room vacant for just one night. We tried to secure the house door by blocking it, but that didn’t work very well. While we were asleep that night, someone got inside. We found him naked in the empty bedroom the next morning. He said he had permission from the property manager, but that wasn’t true. It turned out he worked for the cleaning company, so he knew about the locks and how to get in. The owners promised a full refund because of this intrusive experience. After the period when VRBO could still help had passed, they stopped responding, and we haven’t heard from them. We posted a review on VRBO, but it no longer seems to be listed. I’d never rent from these dishonest people again. Horrible experience.

The property manager was great and quick to respond, and the location on the island was perfect. It’s a gorgeous place, from the mural on the gate to the landscaped yard, beautiful backyard pool, and roof area with a plunge pool, tiki bar, and swings. There’s also a half bath downstairs that isn’t shown in the listings, a nice bonus. The plunge pool is called a hot tub in some listings, but it isn’t one. Before booking, I’d researched a lot of houses, and this was among the best decorated, landscaped, brand new, modern places on Isla for the price. There’s tons of space, and I’d go back.

We’ll return to Isla, which is amazing, but definitely not to this villa. It was very disappointing, and the place wasn’t in the condition shown in the pictures. The bedroom AC was broken and wasn’t fixed on the first day. On the second day, when that bedroom unit was fixed, the main living area AC stopped working. Getting problems resolved was almost impossible. Those are just the main issues: there were broken safes, kitchen doors, and dressers, plus a problem with the powder room. The owners’ reps felt it was okay to walk into the main house and go through guests’ things. That was not okay.
