Bungalows Tukitlan

We loved the quiet nights and having the beach almost to ourselves after 6 pm, and again in the morning before 10. Tukitlan feels wonderfully surrounded by nature once you get inside. We stayed two nights in Bungalow Tejón, on the second floor. The room was lovely, with a small balcony looking out to sea, a mini-fridge, and a coffee maker. Bring your own coffee and water. There's a private bathroom with a shower, but only cold water, which is part of the experience. Everyone was very friendly and the service was very good. Getting there is part of the stay: you take a boat from the port of Zihuatanejo, $80 per person for the round trip. We parked on the street by the military base, felt safe, and had no trouble with the car. Access to the bungalows is through one of the restaurants on Las Gatas beach. That entrance felt messy and unclean, not what you'd expect for the price. If you aren't used to waking up to birds, this may not suit you, but we loved it. We paid 2,500 pesos per night, with breakfast at 100 pesos and coffee at 25 pesos. A unique experience I'd recommend.

It felt like having a private beach, with no noise and just the sound of the sea. The service was a 10/10, and we found the accommodations a 10/10 too. We stayed at Un Tippie and honestly, you don't need much if you're coming as a tourist. Be aware that you have to take a boat to reach the accommodations. It costs $80 pesos round trip, and the last boat to Playa Las Gatas leaves at 3:30 pm. The boats stop after that, so it's not a good choice if you want to visit Zihuatanejo at night. There's no other way to get back to the accommodations.

We stayed in a tiki bungalow for $1,500 pesos a night. It was a unique, peaceful experience, with the chance to spend the beach at night completely alone. During our visit, they arranged a wonderful romantic dinner for us by the sea. Breakfasts cost over $100 pesos, and dinner was around $1,500 pesos for two people, three courses. The bungalows are rustic and simple, with basic amenities. Ours was behind the restaurant area, accessed through Oliverio's restaurant, and you can only get there by boat. You're surrounded by nature, so expect mosquitoes and other insects. We had a great time, but some people may not be used to that. Cell reception is poor, and there's even less internet. The food was good, and the owners were very friendly.

The owners gave excellent service and made us feel right at home. The setting is beautiful, and the atmosphere they've made feels one of a kind. Highly recommended.
