Hotel Punta Ponto

The host was a big help in finding us a reliable, affordable boat tour. We had amazing sea views and a great location at this lovely local place to stay. Our guide was Ariel Massa, and I fully recommend his services too!

Roger was full of good suggestions for places to eat and things to do, and helped arrange our boat tour. We were so happy there that we added another night because we weren't ready to leave. There are at least three great restaurants nearby, and La Mojarrita was the best food we had during our ten days in Mexico. Make sure to eat there at least once. Our room had a private balcony over the water, probably the best one in the hotel, and breakfast was brought out to us there each morning. We thought the price was excellent value, and the stay was even better than expected. The hotel sits on the east side of the point, so the sunrise view is great. The balcony stays nicely shaded for most of the day; other rooms can use a shared balcony on the other side, and there's an open sun deck too. The place isn't fancy, but it's exceptionally clean and feels very homey. Roger was a friendly, knowledgeable host. My mom called it the best place we stayed :)

The room itself was pleasant and reasonably clean, and the upper rooms have a lovely view. The welcome, though, really needs work. The owner couldn't tell us the price of the boat trip he was offering, and we couldn't pay by card despite the booking site saying we could. Breakfast hours also didn't work with the boat trips. We had children and lots of luggage, but he didn't offer to help carry even one bag. On departure day there wasn't even a goodbye.

For what it costs, the stay felt very average, and breakfast was basic. Roger, the owner, was kind and helpful. The hotel arranged a trip to see the Coloradas and the river, but we felt completely scammed. Don't take a tour with Santiago, locally called Cuervo or Cuervito.
