The room was dated, but I didn’t mind, and I had a lovely view from the balcony. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and for the price it was a great value. The hotel is very central, which is nice in the daytime, though it can get pretty loud in the evening. Water pressure was low, but maybe that’s just Durango.

My husband and I rented the Pancho Villa room, where Villa stayed in 1913. It had a high ceiling and three big wood-framed windows looking out toward the Ricardo Castro theater and 20th of November street. The beautifully vintage feel was striking from the moment we entered, like stepping back in time. The hotel dates to 1907 and has the oldest working elevator in the region.

The balcony had an amazing view, and the room was clean, comfortable, and cheap. There are lots of restaurants, parks, and museums nearby, as well as the cathedral. I’d suggest putting a minisplit in every room.

The setting is hard to beat, right by the Plaza de Armas and Paseo Constitución, with dozens of sights in walking distance. The building is a classical colonial mansion over 100 years old, and it has served as a hotel for 101 years. The rooms are comfortable but old-fashioned. Privacy is limited by openings into the main corredor, and ours wouldn’t close properly. We also had trouble with hot water. There’s no breakfast. Parking is covered from 2000-0800, but daytime parking costs $130mxn as of this review. Nearby hotels offer a better experience for a similar price.

The water pressure was low, but otherwise it was nice. People were extremely friendly, and the plaza, market, and some great restaurants are close by.
