The rooms are the big problem here. They're cold with no heat, and the mattresses, pillows and blankets are old; the bedding also looked like it needed washing. The furniture and rooms badly need updating. Outside, though, the grounds are lovely, with lots of mature trees and plants, plus dozens of cats. With some work, this could be a really nice property again.

Waking up to birdsong and a view of the garden was a treat. I stayed in a small bungalow with a king bed, dining table, bathroom and full kitchen with a microwave and stove. There weren't many kitchen supplies, so bring cutlery, bowls, pots, pans and dish soap if you plan to cook. The separate bungalows sit among pools and gardens, with many, many cats around. Everything looked clean and well cared for, and the staff were very helpful.

The grounds are spotless, and the staff are attentive without prices getting out of hand. I've never had a bad visit. The salads and sandwiches are fresh and generous, and the soup of the day is delicious. It's a favorite with the West End Gringos I know. Give the Ginger Lemonada a try!

It's a beautiful property, and the restaurant Frida is really nice, but maintenance let the stay down. There was some issue around every corner: the boiler didn't work, so we had to switch rooms; our room was only sort of clean and smelled odd; and the shower water came out brown at first. Without those problems, it could have been five stars.

The rooms are great, and the vegetation outside is wonderful. Just be patient: a few things went wrong, and management did sort them out, though not quickly.
