Hotel del Pescador

We were visiting someone in Ajijic without a car, so the hotel was a bit out of the way, though most buses stopped right outside to pick us up. The room was cute, with strong air conditioning and a hot shower with good pressure. Breakfast was included and delicious, and the server was warm and fun. I just wish breakfast started around 7:30. We didn't get to use the inviting pool, but we ate twice at the wonderful restaurant next door, Rincon Espania. I'd happily stay here again.

The pool area and surrounding landscaping are beautiful, and the pool itself is lovely. Breakfast was delicious, with free refills on the coffee. The room was clean and room service was great. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and they speak some English. The local bus stops right outside, which makes it easy to explore towns along Lake Chapala beyond Ajijic.

The staff were excellent and helpful, with a wonderful Manager who takes real pride in the hotel. The grounds, gardens, reception and public spaces are beautiful, and the food was great. Sunday's delicious breakfast is included. We enjoyed the pool and spa pool too. The rooms are very small, and at first mine felt like a container. Once I noticed the design details, though, I found it quite comfortable. We had a twin room with excellent beds, marble floors, working, efficient A.C., and our own tiny, manicured roof garden with flowers. The bathroom had a lovely overhead rain shower and a nice selection of complimentary toiletries. There was a safe in the closet, a little desk, and a flat-screen TV with decent programming. I'd have liked an armchair and a few extra pillows, but space limits what can fit. Still, I would certainly recommend this hotel.

We left del pescador about an hour after arriving. The room was small, the internet didn't work, and the balcony we'd been told we'd have wasn't there. The only response was that they couldn't help. The pool also closed early, so my wife couldn't use it, even though that was the whole reason she picked the hotel. It was a terrible stay, and we're now trying to get our money back through the credit card company. I wouldn't recommend this place. After leaving, we went last minute to HS Hotsson Smart, which was incredible. It cost the same as del pescador but had triple the space, plus free food and drinks, including beer, a kitchen, fridge, balcony, couch, huge bathroom, and friendly staff.
