Hacienda San Pedro Nohpat

The owner made us feel so welcome, she’s lovely and warm. We were traveling with our dog, who really enjoyed the large yard, so this place worked perfectly for us. If we return to Merida, we’ll stay here again.

We were surprised by how much we got for the price. This 400-year-old building has been remodeled with all the amenities, and it’s beautiful and luxurious. There are only a handful of rooms, run by a friendly, knowledgeable Canadian couple. Breakfast is personalized, parking is free in a gated lot, and the grounds and pool are well kept. Cell reception was good, and WiFi was available. Six stars, highly recommend.

The king suite we booked had so much room that we felt like royalty. The bed was the most comfortable one we had in all of Mexico, and the jacuzzi tub was a favorite too. We wish we could have stayed longer. If you’re near Mérida, this is the place.

The peaceful, beautiful garden they’re growing at the back was a highlight, and our hosts were incredibly helpful, personalizing our trip as much as they could. Just keep in mind that the stay is in the adjoining village-town of San Pedro Nohpat, not Merida itself. The drive to Merida’s historical center takes about 20 to 30 minutes, for reference. One thing to consider before booking: I recommend reading a little about the history of haciendas in Mexico, including forced indentured labor, so you can decide whether this kind of stay feels right for you. The hosts aren’t of Mexican herigabe and aren’t connected to Mexican history in this specific context, but it still helps to learn about the place where you’re going to stay.
