El Fuerte Beach Resort

The hotel was really noisy, and we could hear every word from the neighbors. It felt like a baby was crying right beside us. The shower had so little pressure that washing my hair properly wasn't possible. The location, though, was great, with a nice view, right by the beach and plenty of restaurants nearby.

We came for the day and the $4-per-person taxi made it easy to get here. Service was okay, but the beach wasn't great and there wasn't anything else to do. I wouldn't bring the kids again. People selling things kept approaching us, about once a minute. Several stood right in front of us and wouldn't move, which made it hard to relax or keep an eye on our kids playing on the beach. It was okay, but we won't come back.

The staff were SUPER friendly, and the rooms were very clean. We stayed nine nights and had an excellent experience at El Fuerte. After the first night, we got upgraded to an oceanfront room, which was a nice bonus. It had a kitchen, and the hotel supplied whatever we needed, including a knife and coffee maker. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Many staff members speak English, though not all of them. The hotel has a private beach with both sun and shade, and the owners were on the property, which always makes a difference in how well a hotel is run. They're Italian, so we expected excellent restaurant food, and it was. We ate several meals there, including pasta, lobster, tacos, and burgers.

We stayed here for a couple of days on our last visit to Mahahual. The beach chairs and the food were our favorite parts. We had refreshing cocktails 🍹 and delicious food, especially the nachos with chicken. The location is perfect, parking is available, and the staff gave good service. It was very clean, which mattered a lot to us.
