Essen's Hotel

Ana and the rest of the staff at Essen's Hotel were great. Our room was basic but clean, and the view of the malecon during Carnaval was fantastic. We loved staying there and would come back.

The bedroom had plenty of space, but the service and facilities were disappointing. It wasn’t clean, the walls were dirty, and we found a cockroach hiding between the mattress support and the foot of the bed. Since those parts are attached to the wall, we couldn’t look for it. We asked reception for help and insecticide, but they didn’t help. Cars drive along the avenue outside with very loud music, so it’s noisy. The internet is inconsistent, and works well only in certain spots in the bedroom.

The receptionists were rude and tried to charge me extra for having a guest. The rooms were filthy, and they accused me of taking a remote so they could keep my deposit. This place is a disaster, and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel to anyone. Stay away.

The location is okay, but weekends get noisy, and the rooms are awful. Mine smelled old, the curtains were worn and didn’t cover the whole window, and the TV had no remote. The sheets hadn’t been changed after the last guest, and there was hair and dirt in the bed. Parking is only next to the hotel, so if those spaces are full you have to find somewhere else. I paid about $1500 Pesos online, while the starting price at the hotel was $2000. For that terrible room quality, it’s not worth it. If you don’t book online ahead, it’ll probably cost as much as a better hotel. Pay a little extra somewhere else and do yourself a favor. I wouldn’t recommend this place.
