The staff made this stay for me. They were warm, friendly, and so accommodating, and the Centro location is hard to beat, with parks, shops, restaurants, and cafes just a short walk away. The WiFi was strong, and the rooms had smart TVs. My room was basic but clean and worked fine. The shower had great pressure and reliably hot water, and fresh towels and bottled water arrived daily. Breakfast was fresh, served quickly, and came with lovely service. The grounds were clean and cute too. The place feels dated and could use a refresh. The pools need some attention, especially the plunge pools in the upgraded suites. I stayed in one and still loved reading in the hammock chair above the plunge pool each afternoon. For what I paid, I felt I got great value: $1200CAD for a week in an upgraded suite. If you want five-star amenities, book a five-star hotel. For a clean, cozy place with a local feel and excellent service, Art 57 worked really well for me.

The staff were very nice, and the price was fairly low, which is why I gave four stars. We booked the suite with a private pool, but don't expect luxuries here. The hotel is old and could use renovation throughout. The pools were mostly unusable because neither the private pool nor the main one has filtration. Someone skimmed ours with a net a couple of days after we arrived, which removed the leaves and big bugs. It would help to leave a net out for guests. I'd have happily done the skimming myself to make the pool usable. There were two towels and one hand towel in our room, no washcloths or pool towels, and the towels were worn. The pillows were hit or miss. My wife wanted a softer one, but there wasn't another option. Breakfast was just fruit and toast, though there are good breakfast places in every direction nearby. Our door had gaps around it that let mosquitoes in, including an open space about 1"X3" at the bottom of the jamb. I don't know why that hasn't been fixed. The handrails also didn't look sturdy enough to hold up under 20 pounds of pressure, and the arm on the Adirondack chair on the deck came off easily. Some basic maintenance would help before a full renovation. The WiFi was very unreliable and only worked sometimes.

The location is great, and the staff have helped me with a few other small things. But the WiFi has been spottier than at any other hotel I've stayed in Mexico. I paid extra for a suite with a private plunge pool, and it wasn't worth it. The pool was filthy and unusable, and seemed to be the source of a serious bug problem. There were more mosquitoes in the room than in the jungle-like courtyard. I got several bites on my face, including near my eye, and couldn't sleep with them buzzing around my ears. They offered me a different room on the ground floor facing the street, but no credit for the price difference.

The location was really good, and the room was well soundproofed. Breakfast was okay. The room smelled strongly of paint or chemicals. When we first came in, I had trouble breathing. We aired it out as much as we could and got somewhat used to it, but after every time we left and came back, the smell hit us again. The hotel said it was due to the current weather. We visited in early January, so perhaps it's better at other times of year. There was no fridge, barely any room for clothes, and just one bedside lamp for a double bed. The AC worked, but its direction fin was broken.

I'm giving more than one star because the staff were helpful and nice. The room and its attached outdoor area were much smaller than they appeared in the photos. The shower was a mess to use: even a two-minute shower flooded the whole bathroom, and water got into the main room. It also went cold quickly.
