Hotel Marionetas

A very nice, clean hotel with good WIFI and a very good breakfast. It's an easy walk to the city center. Recommended.

The room was a decent size, the shower and hot water worked well, and having a hammock in the room was nice. It's centrally located, with the main attractions only a short walk away. Still, the place felt pretty mediocre. The room smelled musty and moldy, and the bathroom kept getting more and more like sewage. My partner and I both woke up with sore backs because the bed and pillows were so uncomfortable. You can hear live music from a street bar, though it closes at 10pm, so it wasn't too much of a problem. The pool wasn't inviting, and while there were some nice plants, the property had nothing special architecturally. Parking across the street costs an extra 100mxn/night. We parked on the street instead and it was fine, just avoid the yellow lines.

The staff were very nice and helpful, and the room and bed were comfortable. The air conditioning and ceiling fan both worked well and were very quiet. The loo was a bit manky, with what I guess were water deposit stains, and the pool didn't look inviting, with greenish water and paint coming off the floor. Breakfast was very basic, but better than nothing. It's not in the centre, which makes it quiet, and there's a fair walk to get there, though the route is flat and not bad.

Hotel Marionetas was perfect for our 11-day stay, and we'll definitely come back. The staff were always super kind and gave us recommendations on places to visit. Our room was clean and spacious and felt like home. Popular live music bars are nearby, but they all close at 10pm, which worked perfectly for us. We'd go enjoy the music, then come back for a quiet night's sleep. It was a 10-15 min walk to el Center, Paseo Montejo, and mercados. Free overnight street parking was ideal since we took daily trips and needed somewhere for our rental car. We LOVE this place.
