Hotel Mejorada Merida

We spent a wonderful stay here. The courtyard is lovely, full of plants, and just right for coffee and a bit of relaxing. Our hosts were welcoming, friendly, and always glad to help, and the service was great. Breakfast was delicious and nicely prepared. The location is excellent too. I'd happily recommend this place if you're after a comfortable, enjoyable stay.

The location made it easy to reach the City Center, about a 10-minute walk, while being away from its bustle. There were lots of police officers patrolling the area, and I felt completely safe and comfortable walking around, even past midnight. I really enjoyed my mid-November stay. The courtyard looks just as good as the photos, with a pool in the middle, green plants around it, and the red building beside it. Guests can use the pool during the day until 8 pm. Breakfast is served overlooking the pool. There were three choices when I visited, chilaquiles, omelette, or eggs, with fruit and yogurt, bread, coffee, and orange juice. It was cooked in the kitchen and tasted delicious. I'd suggest going earlier before the day heats up. You'll enjoy the courtyard even more. My room was a little older and sparse, but clean and had the basics, including air conditioning. They provided two towels and two bottles of water daily, though I'm sure you can ask for more towels if needed. There were no cups, but that may be a good reminder to use bottled water for drinking and brushing your teeth instead of tap water. Service was great. The owner/manager was attentive and spoke English, and all the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

We stumbled on this hotel at the last minute after an unexpected cancellation, and I'm glad we did. The building is beautiful and similar to a typical hacienda. We had a spacious room with a big shower and a little fridge, and the receptionist was really friendly and helpful. It's about a 5/10 minute walk to the main city center. There are also free parking spaces in the square in front.

The manager was rude and smarmy, acting as if letting us stay were a favor. The main squares and bars/restaurants are quite a walk away, and there are better hotels at this price. Like many hotels in Merida, the outside looks great, but the rooms are old, worn, and not very clean. One bed in our room was broken, the other had a sunken mattress, and there were spider webs and dead mosquitoes in the corners. The place felt rundown.
