Hotel Sevilla

Lying by the generous pool in the morning, under the palm tree, was bliss. The hotel is beautiful and peaceful, just steps from Merida’s busy market and its lovely cathedral square. The historic convent rooms have been tastefully modernised, though some details aren’t very practical. For example, the toilet may be open to the rest of the room, and with the shutters open other guests can glance inside. It never seemed busy while I was there. There are still some teething problems: reception can be empty for minutes, new staff may not know where the rooms are, and service can be slow or arrive in bits. At these prices I’d make breakfast fully included, offer specialty coffees, and improve the current espresso machine. Then it’s on to lunch at the concrete mod bar.

It’s an okay place, though there are things they could improve. Other hotels have contacted me beforehand to ask when I’d arrive and check a few simple details, which makes the service feel much better. My usual hotel was full, so I couldn’t stay there this time. I’d probably think twice before booking this one again.

We loved this place. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the hotel had a great restaurant, bar, and pool. It was also quiet and felt private, with a great location.

Our family came to Mérida for the holiday and had booked a New Year’s Eve 2025 dinner at Hotel Sevilla. There were eight of us, travelling from Dubai, Luxembourg, Syria, and elsewhere for our annual get-together. Just 15 minutes before the reservation, the hotel messaged us on WhatsApp to say it was cancelled, without even calling. The manager told us by phone that the owners had chosen to prioritize some friends who came at the last minute, so our table was gone. When we said this would ruin our family celebration, he laughed and said we should “think about the people in Palestine who won’t be able to celebrate New Year.” Cancelling a confirmed booking at the last minute, putting personal acquaintances ahead of paying guests, and mocking us while we were upset was unacceptable and deeply unprofessional. If reliability, respect, and basic hospitality matter to you, I strongly advise avoiding this place.
