The hostel is awesome, and I had a great week there. The pool, billiards table, bar, staff, and activities the hostel put on all made the stay fun. Its location is great too, very close to the city center. I met lots of people and highly recommend it!

We had a private room at Che Hostel Mérida, and it worked out perfectly. It was quiet when we wanted that, while still right in the middle of the fun. The volunteers made it easy to meet people, reception was always friendly, and Rebecca behind the bar was the best. Big thanks to the whole team, especially manager Alexis, who was so kind and kept everything running smoothly. We met great people, had a lot of fun, and would absolutely come back!

The price was decent, but we wouldn’t be in a hurry to stay again. We spent two nights in a private room that had three beds even though we only needed one double, but it had everything we needed. There was a shared kitchen with fridges and appliances, and the hostel seemed fun, with events most nights, a group WhatsApp chat, and tours to cenotes and other places. The pool looked nice, though we didn’t use it. The location was fine, about a 10 minute walk to the center, and Merida is small. The airport bus dropped us five minutes away on foot. The AC ran on a strange timer and kept cutting out overnight. We understand dorm rooms don’t have AC around the clock, but private rooms should. We told the staff, who said they’d fix it, but we weren’t convinced they had. Luckily we managed a quick fix for our last night. The staff also seemed oddly unfriendly. They didn’t acknowledge us coming and going, smile, or say hi, and seemed annoyed when we asked a question. We weren’t expecting a conversation, but it felt strange for a hostel. They seemed around our age, and we’re used to hostel staff being welcoming. Maybe we were unlucky, or they’d just had a few bad days.

We stayed three nights in a private room while visiting Merida. The room was decent and very clean, and the location was excellent, within walking distance of the center, shops, and restaurants. I found the hostel pretty boring compared with others, though. The courtyard didn’t feel social, and they could use more events or activities for guests. There wasn’t food for sale, just a tiny minibar run by one person for a very limited stretch of the evening. My experience was okay.

The location is fantastic. The beds are very big and quite comfortable, with under-bed lockers, and the top bunk had a sideboard that was great for storing things overnight. There was also a shared area to dry your things. But the toilets weren’t cleaned or restocked with paper overnight, which was really annoying with two toilets shared by about 20 beds across two dorms. At check-in I stood at the desk for several minutes while staff ignored me. The group chat kept promoting hostel activities instead of local events during Mérida fest or the daily happenings, which was a shame. I was glad I’d looked things up beforehand, and I’d recommend doing the same.
