Hotel Siglo 21 Merida

Good value, clean, and comfortable beds. I had a good stay and would recommend it. The pool paint was flaking around the edge, though. Some inconsiderate guests smoked in the no-smoking area by the pool and left cigarette butts on the floor. There was a nice smoking area just outside with tables and ashtrays, but these locals still chose to smoke inside and didn’t pick up the butts.

For about 700mxn or 35usd, the value was good. You can’t expect a 5-star resort like Riviera Maya for that price. It’s clean, with a nice pool for hot weather, and my floor’s wifi worked well while I worked from here for two days. The AC was good but too noisy. In Spanish, we say it has 3Bs, bueno, bonito y barato. The location may suit you if you want to be near malls or the Progreso exit road, but it’s not the spot if you’re looking for somewhere downtown.

My laptop was on the bed, and while we were at the restaurant, water from the AC dripped onto it and damaged the computer. We asked the manager for help and were moved to another room, but it was worse, so we left even though we had paid for two nights. Repairs will cost 350 US dollars. I called the hotel today and told the manager about it, but he hung up on me several times. BAD BAD BAD. WARNING. BAD PEOPLE. DO NOT GO THERE. ITS BAD BAD.

An affordable hotel with a pool and a grocery store next door. It’s a handy stop if you’re travelling to or from Progreso and aren’t in a hurry. You can relax at the pool or on your patio and have your own beer.
