Hyatt Place Merida/Via Montejo

The location is a real convenience, directly across from the U.S. Consulate, with Costco, shopping malls, and lots of food options within walking distance. Inside, the renovated hotel feels modern, and the room was clean and comfortable. The water stayed hot and had great pressure, and the Wi-Fi was stable and good. The complimentary buffet breakfast had plenty to choose from and was well worth it. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It’s a great place to stay.

Karla and Alejandra were especially helpful, and the whole team made our stay easy. Everyone spoke English and Spanish well, which helped since our group had mixed language speakers. The free breakfast was great, far better than American continental breakfasts, and the paid coffee bar made a really good iced americano. The Hyatt is brand new and well kept, with very comfortable rooms and amazing service. I’d stay again in a heartbeat, especially if you have business at the US embassy.

The coffee wasn’t good, and breakfast was very basic. Several rooms had a terrible sewer smell. I asked reception four times before they finally got it resolved. I also had to ask several times for basic items like bath mats before they were brought up.

We ended up in Merida unexpectedly after my partner’s passport was stolen, and needed to stay near the American consulate. The kind, helpful staff made it a good experience. Our room was sleek and nice, and the breakfast buffet included eggs and fresh papaya. There was also a pool with beautiful tiles and a gym.
