Camino Real Polanco Mexico

The heated pool was great for morning laps, and we liked having several restaurants on-site. Morimoto stood out for its amazing fusion food. The gym and spa were good too. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the front desk helped with everything from restaurant recommendations to late checkout. It’s easy to walk to Polanco’s upscale shops and restaurants, Chapultepec Park, and nearby museums, and the neighborhood felt very safe. The hotel has a striking mid-century design, with bold colors, art, and architecture from the ’60s that still feel fresh. Our room was spacious and super clean, and the bed was so comfortable that I slept better than at home. Some areas feel a bit dated, but in a charming way. The value depends on the rate, and we got a good deal, so it felt worth it. Free parking and solid WiFi were nice bonuses. A fantastic choice for a few nights in Polanco, whether for business or leisure in CDMX. Classic luxury with that iconic mid-century vibe. I’d definitely stay again, 10/10 for the experience. 🇲🇽✨

The friendly, helpful restaurant staff and bellboys were a bright spot, and one young man at the front desk was kind and helpful too. The buffet still had decent food, though it was almost empty, and I remember it being lively and popular years ago. The sushi restaurant upstairs was also nearly deserted, and the experience wasn’t anything special. Camino Real Mexico has beautiful, iconic architecture and a rich history, but the property is badly neglected. There’s a real difference between an old hotel and one that’s dirty and uncared for. The hallways looked dirty, and our first room on the second floor was in poor shape, with worn, dirty-looking carpet, a dirty door, stained sheets, and an unpleasant smell. The bathroom smelled strongly of sewage. I didn’t notice it the first night, but by morning it was unbearable. When I called the front desk, they immediately said, “Oh yes, it smells like sewage, right?” so they clearly knew about it. We were moved to a better room with a balcony, but the stay had already been disappointing. A woman who introduced herself as a manager, or future manager, was not approachable. At check-in she blamed Expedia for a “bad reservation,” spoke very negatively about the platform, and said Expedia bookings always cause problems and it’s better to book directly. I found that unprofessional, especially since Expedia is widely used and reliable and we’d never had issues with it before. I stayed for several days around New Year’s Eve and the first days of January. It was sad to see such an iconic hotel in this condition. It needs substantial maintenance, better cleanliness, and improved management. It used to be beautiful, and it could be again.

The location is nice, but the hotel is very pricey. For those room rates, small things shouldn’t be overlooked. The lighting can only be controlled at the entry door, so what do you do at the bedside, walk to bed in the dark? And why is there no bathroom exhaust fan? To me, the place is overdesigned.

The hotel is nice, though old, and the location is good. People were friendly, and breakfast was tasty but expensive. I saw one employee picking blueberries out of the fruit bowl by hand while talking to another employee, and after that I didn’t want to eat any more.
