City Express Plus by Marriott Ciudad de México Santa Fe

The view was nice, the place was very clean, and the staff were helpful. Good location too. Breakfast could be better.

The rooms are small, but renovated, clean, and have everything you need. The girls in the lobby were super nice. I wasn’t sure about my room, so they showed me a few others to help me decide. I’m thankful to them. The location is great, and that’s the hotel’s main value. Service is okay except at breakfast and in the restaurant, where it’s really hard to get anything. The free breakfast isn’t very good, and if you pay for it, it feels like too much for what you get.

Getting to the hotel was very difficult. Breakfast costs 320, while the free option is just fruit and stale bread. There was a big leak at the AC in my room. The dripping water noise woke me about 10 times, since the mini split was right above my bed. I told the receptionist, but she just ignored me.

We had a corner room with a really nice view of Santa Fe. I can imagine rooms blocked by nearby buildings or the hill behind wouldn’t be as pleasant. City Express has a modern design and the basics you need, but it’s a no-frills chain with few services or amenities. The Wi-Fi password is the first word of your last name, all caps. My biggest complaint is how breakfast has changed. City Express used to include a hot breakfast that was better than what comparable hotel chains offered, and that was one of the main reasons to choose it. Now the included meal, which ends at 9AM, is only ham sandwiches, a few cold meats and cheeses, bread, cereal, and yogurt with nuts and seeds. The hot buffet add-on costs $320, but even here in Santa Fe you can get a nice meal for less. Why does breakfast end so early? We also had inconsistent shower water during a 7:30AM shower, swinging between a bit too hot and not hot at all. We were visiting for a business event, so probably many people were showering at the same time and everyone’s adjustments were cascading. Still, consistent water pressure seems necessary, or the system can’t keep up with rush hour showers.
