Casa Dovela

Casa Dovela’s security guards were helpful with directions and knew where to find late-night tacos. The location also puts you close to great food and striking architecture. I stayed in the Santa Monica suite after going to Lana del Rey’s concert, and it was so comfortable I had trouble motivating myself to go out and explore. The organic modern look mixed with Japandi style made it feel instantly relaxing, like architectural magic in a bottle.

My daughter and I spent four nights in the San Jose suite. We loved having morning coffee while watching dogs play in the park next door. After long days walking, the beds were very comfortable, and the location was lovely and easy to get around on foot. Luis was a magnificent host. I’d highly recommend Casa Dovela.

The San Mateo duplex was beautiful and very clean, with a full kitchen and two very comfortable queen beds. The neighborhood was quiet, and there were lots of restaurants within 250m. We didn’t find the playground next door noisy. A few things to consider about the layout: the spiral staircase is narrow and steep, with one bedroom and the full bathroom upstairs and a half bath downstairs. It may not work well for families with children under five, people with mobility issues, or larger people. The doormen and Luis were very friendly and helpful during our five-night stay.

We stayed in the lovely Santa Monica Suite for two days. The only snag was that the nights were warmer than we expected, even with the windows open and the small bedroom fan running. The location was quiet and pristine, and the dog park didn’t cause us any noise problems. I surprised my partner with a morning proposal in CDMX, then changed hotels that afternoon to Casa Dovela. Luis, the private concierge, helped coordinate everything and made the switch go smoothly. I asked for rose petals on the bed, a warm bath, and champagne to be ready when we got back, and he arranged it without a hitch. Outside of the heat at night, I’d highly recommend it for a romantic stay.
