The way the booking was handled afterward made an already bad stay even more frustrating. I was refused a refund for the unused nights, although my mother could not reasonably stay in the room. When I asked for the manager, I was told they were away. The phone number I was given was wrong; the number on Google reached someone who didn’t speak English, and the promised call from an English-speaking colleague never came. Booking.com’s contact seemed to go to an individual rather than a proper reception, so getting help was nearly impossible. I had rented an apartment at Cuadra 134 for my 65-year-old mother’s six-day visit to Mexico City, with the option to add eight more. I wanted somewhere comfortable and quiet. Instead, she got Room 206, directly over the restaurants’ industrial ventilation system. The noise was so loud it felt like sitting beside an airplane engine. Reception said she could change rooms the next day, but she slept only about four hours that first night. They said the ventilation was switched off overnight, but it clearly wasn’t. There was also a strong cigarette smell in the building. The only alternative they offered was on the fifth floor in the same vertical line, still above the ventilation and just as noisy. No other rooms were available. The rate was technically non-refundable, but this seemed to me to be the property’s responsibility, since guest rooms were placed right over industrial ventilation (see photos).

The staff made the stay feel special. The housekeepers were so sweet, and the people at security and in the lobby were always kind and welcoming. I could’ve stayed here forever. ♡ I loved having a balcony on my studio, especially just sitting there and watching the world go by. The location’s great too: there are three coffee shops on the block if you count the Starbucks at the hospital, plus a bodega and a few restaurants. For the best food, head to the street vendors one block south. They leave decaf in the room, and there’s a first-floor room with different Nespresso coffees, yogurt, jello, pudding, cereal, and fruit. Get there early if you want any of the snacks. My complaints were small but noticeable: the bathroom door should be a pocket door, and the place badly needs floor-to-ceiling blackout curtains. I expected USB ports in a newer building, or at least on the lamps, but the only one is on the TV and charges very slowly. Bring your own plugs for electronics.

We really liked the two-bedroom with a bathtub, and the location worked perfectly for us. Everyone on staff was so friendly and wonderful. Thanks so much, we’ll be back!

It was peaceful and quiet, and I got a lot of sleep. The location was great. The agreement they ask you to sign was much longer than I’d consider reasonable, and it felt like they were covering themselves, but it all worked out fine.
