Hotel B Urban Xaman by Fontán Reforma

The rooms are pretty basic and have no sound insulation, so even small noises elsewhere on the floor sound as if they’re right outside your door.

It’s in a great location, and the concept and amenities are nice, but the place needs maintenance. For the price, it wasn’t a good experience and I regretted not looking at Airbnb instead. I wouldn’t book again. Our first room had no water because the sink was leaking and had to be completely removed. Staff hadn’t noticed the leak, so we had to report it ourselves. They asked us to pack up and moved us from a two-bedroom room to a single. When we asked for a two-bed room like our original booking, they gave us a smaller room with a safe that had no batteries and a worse view. It faced an alley where taxi drivers were noisy at night and early in the morning. Maintenance had to come late at night to adjust the shower so water would come out. The next day our keys stopped working, and at night we could hear people in neighboring rooms. We asked the manager for a price adjustment because of the inconvenience and slight downgrade. The response was that they had accommodated all our needs and that the room was in the same “category” as the original, so they saw no reason to adjust the price.

The rooms are roomy, and the decor has thoughtful touches. The shared spaces and lobby also look great and always smell lovely. The AC was a real problem, though. The units are old and barely worked. I had mine replaced, but the replacement still didn't work properly. There was also a constant drain smell in the bathroom, so we often burned the incense they provided to cover it.

The location made it easy to explore, and my room had beautiful views over the mountains and city. It was clean and very nice, with heat and hot water, both of which can be unreliable or missing in DF. I didn't hear the neighbors, though I think I was the only guest for most of my stay. Service was good. I arrived around 1:30am after calling ahead, and it was nice that they greeted me by name. Staff can speak English if needed. Just a heads-up, this hotel is inside Hotel Fontan. I didn't attend any events or eat there.
