Hotel El Salvador

We had a really bad experience here. We booked and paid for the room for that day, and had asked the day before we arrived whether we could check in early after a long journey. They said 8 am would be possible if a room was free. We got there around 7 am, but they couldn't check us in because our room wasn't ready, even though a large family who was already waiting at reception was allowed to check in. My boyfriend was very sick and nauseous, and needed the bathroom often. We said we'd take another room if one was available. They offered us one beside reception, which was very noisy and felt like a basement. We were willing to stay there until our own room was ready, and even offered to pay extra for cleaning, but they said we could only have that room if we stayed in it for the whole visit. We paid a lot for our room and didn't want to spend the whole stay in a basement room. Around 8:45, I asked about our room and was told it was available, but the cleaning staff wouldn't arrive until 9 and we'd have to wait until 11. When I asked why we couldn't get in at 9, they ignored me. It felt like they just didn't care about the situation we were in. If we could have cancelled, we definitely would have. We don't want to support hotels that charge these prices and provide such poor service. The room itself was okay, but far too expensive for the service we got.
