Hotel MX lagunilla CDMX, Trademark Collection by Wyndham

The location is really good, but I won’t come back. We stayed four nights, and because we didn’t request room cleaning, we didn’t automatically get replacement water bottles during the day. At 7 p.m. the front desk said they had none, and would try to set aside two for us when the next supply arrived between 7 and 10 that night. That sounded ridiculous. Similar issues came up with blankets and hot water. The staff’s explanations made this four-star hotel sound like it was short on basic supplies. One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed at.

The location is central, about a five-minute walk from Plaza Garibaldi, and breakfast is delicious and included. Parking is included too, if you’re brave enough to drive in CDMX. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. There’s no AC, only a fan, but even in mid-August that was enough at night. We booked one night, and apart from one mistake there were no other problems. At first the staff gave us a room that was already occupied. It made me wonder whether that happens often, and how safe belongings are if strangers are mistakenly given access. The rooms do have safes.

You can walk to everything, and the hotel is surrounded by markets, music, and all kinds of good things. The staff are great and really helpful, and breakfast was delicious. Our room was very good and almost soundproof. There’s covered parking too. A diamond in the rough.

The area felt dangerous when we arrived, and I wouldn’t recommend it for women or families looking for a safe place. The photos on the hotel website didn’t match what we found. Our room was cold, with a window that wouldn’t close all the way, so cold air came through. It faced the main road, and the gap made it noisy as well. There was no heating, the water took ages to warm up, and when we asked for a different room or another blanket, reception said they were fully booked and had no extra blankets. That seemed very strange. The reception staff didn’t speak much English. We decided to move to another hotel. Never again.
