The building is modern and elegant, and the apartments are spacious, comfortable, and well equipped. The rooftop garden has a beautiful view and made it a pleasant place to stay. But the service and day-to-day operations didn’t always match the quality of the property. Reception could be helpful and friendly, or very bare-minimum, depending on who was working. The digital lock on apartment 10D kept malfunctioning, making it difficult and stressful to get in. Snacks at reception were often out of stock too, a small thing that added to the sense of uneven management. Checkout was especially poorly handled by Mr Mario. We waited an excessive amount of time for someone to check the minibar so our deposit could be refunded. We had to insist firmly because we needed to leave for the airport. In the end, they only checked one room, and we had to leave without the deposit refund for the second room. It caused avoidable stress after an otherwise comfortable stay. Onto has a lot going for it, but service consistency, maintenance, and checkout procedures need significant improvement to match the building, apartments, and rates.

We felt at ease as soon as we arrived. ONTO Tonalá is in Roma Norte, close to cafés and galleries and the lively feel of Mexico City. Our room was bright, modern, spotless, and beautifully decorated, with a kitchenette, premium bedding, great Wi-Fi, and all the amenities we wanted. The style felt comfortable as well as polished. Staff were helpful and friendly, whether at check-in or when we asked for restaurant suggestions. We also spent time on the rooftop terrace, enjoying the skyline with a drink. It’s a safe, high-quality place to stay, and we’d absolutely return.

The suite had a lot of room to spread out, about 590 sq ft, and felt more like a luxury apartment than a typical hotel room in this area. There was a spacious bedroom, full bathroom, living and dining areas, plus a fully equipped kitchen with proper tableware and placemats. Having that space was great for bringing back takeaway or just unwinding. The interiors have soft, inviting tones and feel thoughtfully put together, more home-like than generic. Staff were warm, attentive, and quick to find solutions. Housekeeping was thorough, and the afternoon service was a nice touch. When we mentioned the bedroom temperature, they promptly brought a rotating fan. Each morning the welcoming lobby had complimentary coffee, pastries, and fruit. The location is central and convenient for getting around Roma Norte and Juárez. A couple of issues: Wi-Fi and cell reception were weak in the bedroom, and the A/C sits near the entry, so it may not cool the sleeping area much in hotter months. Still, the spacious, well-designed suite, helpful service, and location made for a great stay.

We felt at home in our large room throughout our seven nights. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and when an earthquake hit Mexico City during our stay, they stayed calm and explained things clearly. It made a frightening moment much less stressful. The rooftop view was wonderful, and the location was fantastic. We also got a lot of help from the WhatsApp concierge with questions about museum hours during the holidays, cleaning, and other things. Highly recommend!
