Casa Magdalena

The place seemed cute when we arrived during the day, but our stay went downhill after that. Coming back at night, it was difficult to get to our room. The walkways had no lighting, and the stairs were so dark I could barely find the keyhole. A nice man lit the fireplace, but the wet wood went out after ten minutes. Mosquitoes kept us up, and we were bitten several times. The bathroom was dirty, very old, and needed a full remodel. The faucet leaked over the counter, and we had no water at 2 a.m. or again at 8 a.m. when we got up to shower. We had paid for three nights, but left after the first and went to Maja to shower and spend the rest of the trip. When I came back for a refund, it took over half an hour while a nice staff member texted the manager. The manager refunded the two prepaid nights but charged us for the awful night we had already spent there. After more than 12 years in the hotel business, managing four five-star hotels, I know how guests should be treated. My own team would have refunded the first night in hopes of earning another chance. They didn't, so I'm writing this to warn other guests. I wouldn't stay here again, though I visit Morelia four times a year from Ixtapa, Mexico. I highly recommend Maja Hotel and Villa Italia if you need a place in Morelia.
